Tesco collection success!
On Friday 6th and Saturday 7th of June, we collected a fantastic £449.72 at Tesco in Epping, as well as a huge amount of donated cat food.
We're very grateful to everyone who contributed, to Tesco for allowing us to collect, and especially to our volunteers, Margaret and Roy, who organised the collection for us. Thank you!

Sponsored run!
We're indebted to Alex Cornwell for raising £211, by running a mini-marathon on 13th April 2008.
Alex ran 3 miles in a time of 15 minutes and 29 seconds - coming 7th out of 250 runners!
Here's Alex receiving a certificate of thanks from Cathy, one of our volunteers (click the picture for a bigger version). Great run Alex, and a big "thankyou" from all of us and the cats!

Sponsored walks
You could organise an event like a sponsored walk.
Oliver, Dean and Ben did just that when they walked Hadrian's Wall in September 2006. They raised £370 for Chestnut Cat Sanctuary!

Ann Campling is another fantastic sponsored walker. She raised £200 from a walk in 2007.
Here she is presenting a cheque to Alison at Chestnut Cat Sanctuary.

Sponsor a building or fixture
You can sponsor a building at Chestnut Cat Sanctuary, or a fixed item like a bench. It's popular to do this in memory of a favourite relation or cat.
Companion Care Vets and the Butler family both sponsored a bench. Another family sponsored the inital erection of our Mother & Baby unit in memory of a cherished relation. We are more than happy to put up a plaque as a sign of your generosity.
|
| You can also sponsor a commemorative plaque in its own right, another lovely way to remember a loved one or a special cat.
Your plaque becomes a permanent feature at the Sanctuary, like the one pictured right - sponsored by Ann Campling to remember Amber.

Our New Arrivals Unit is named after Margaret and Bill Rudgeley, who have been incredibly generous with their sponsorship over the years with monthly cheques, which have paid for a storage shed for litter (now our Sanctuary Store!), cat baskets and more.
We named the unit The Rudgeley Annexe in recognition of everything they have done for us. Thank you Bill and Margaret!

Run a fete stall, jumble sale, raffle or car boot sale
Perhaps, like us, you collect things you finally must get rid of. Why not sell them to raise money for Chestnut Cat Sanctuary? For example, we're present at our local fete every year, selling bric-a-brac we throughout the year on our stall. In June 2006 we raised £380! If you have unwanted items you think we could sell, call us first to discuss. If you have blankets and bedding we can normally use these immediately for the cats. |
|
You could run a stall at your local fete too, and we'd be more than happy to lend a hand. Running a stall, a car boot sale, jumble sale or raffle is good fun, and a good way to raise some money while getting rid of your unwanted items.

Hold a quiz evening
Why not hold a quiz with your friends at school, or at the local pub? Whether you offer a prize or just do it for fun, a quiz can be a great way to raise money and enjoy yourselves at the same time. One way of doing it is to charge a fee to take part in the quiz, then split the proceeds with us - so you cover your costs and help us at the same time. |
|
Organise a collection day
You could speak to a local pub or shop and get permission for a collection day. We can provide you with a collection tin and advertising material. There are rules you have to follow, and you cannot collect on the street! But it can be a great way of meeting people and raising some money for us at the same time. It may be easier if you approach a smaller shop - one with a covered foyer is usually best - but some of the larger stores are often happy to help out, too. |
 |
| For example, Roy and Margaret organised a collection day at a Tesco store in 2006, with great success. Every year we help the RSPCA collect at our local Tesco store, and we're also piloting a scheme at the Pets at Home store in Romford, where we've been allocated a small area of the shop to promote Chestnut Cat Sanctuary and make collections to support our care and rescue work. |

Remember the cats in your will
If you've enjoyed the companionship of cats during your life, perhaps you'd consider giving something back to them when you've gone? Quite a number of cats come to us after their owners have passed away. A legacy could make a huge difference to us and the cats - for example, by enabling us to embark on building projects we couldn't afford otherwise.
Here's a lovely letter we received from one owner who wanted to make sure their cat would be cared for if they passed away. We were more than happy to help!

Do something daring!
You could get your family, colleagues and friends to sponsor you for doing something you've always been afraid to do. From parachuting to bungee jumping, this is a great way to face your fears and raise a lot of cash at th same time! If you can get photos, even better (and we'll be happy to display them here, or even get the local papers involved). Your safety is paramount, of course, so please don't do anything without proper supervision, and health and safety advice. |
 |
|
 |
Do something daft!
Why not hold a sponsored novelty event - dressing up in something crazy, getting your head shaved, sitting in a bath of beans... your imagination is the only limit, and you could raise a lot to support our rescue and rehoming work. You could get others involved from your workplace, school or club - and if you take pictures we'd be happy to display them here. Of course, please don't do anything unsafe or that you'll truly regret afterwards! |
|
Try a sponsored diet!
The ladies at Chestnut Cat Sanctuary recently held a sponsored month without chocolate - successfully, too! Maybe you've been thinking about giving up something anyway... a sponsored diet to raise money for the cats could be a good incentive. Please don't do anything drastic that'll affect your health, however, and if you're unsure always seek professional advice. |
